CHARLESTON, W.Va. (LOOTPRESS) – West Virginia Department of Highways maintenance crews adjusted signal timing to ease congestion on the 31st Street Bridge in Huntington during a nearly four-week bridge inspection project .
One lane of the two-lane bridge was closed on Monday, November 4, 2024, for bridge inspection. This bridge connects Huntington, West Virginia, and Proctorville, Ohio.
WVDOH Bridge and Tunnel Program Manager Ed Armbruster, PE, said WVDOH and the contractor decided to work on the bridge during the day seven days a week to complete the inspection in four weeks. . If the bridge is closed only at night, it will take about four months.
The bridge will be open for Marshall home games.
Armbruster said the signal timing contributes to backing up traffic across the bridge. Traffic light timing was evaluated and adjusted to extend green light time by 20 seconds in each direction.
WVDOH worked with local officials and the Ohio Department of Transportation to assess traffic conditions and make traffic signal adjustments.
