The Maryland Department of Transportation confirmed Thursday that demolition of the remaining portion of the Key Bridge has been postponed.
Demolition is estimated to begin in the summer or fall of 2024.
Officials now say demolition will take place sometime in the winter or spring of 2025.
RELATED: The last key bridge hasn't been demolished yet
Back in May, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers conducted a controlled destruction of part of the Key Bridge to free the Dali ship.
This allowed DALI to be floated to Virginia in June and shipped to China in September.
Officials say the process is expected to take 10 months after it begins, due to several factors.
The length of the bridge that would have to be removed is much longer than the wreckage. Also, in contrast to debris removal, the demolition of intact structures takes a different approach.
