More details have been released about the police investigation at the Ambassador Bridge, which connects Windsor, Ont. and Detroit, Michigan.
The Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC), the union representing Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) staff, has confirmed that a staff member “took his own life” on Ambassador Bridge on Saturday.
Windsor police posted on social media around 10 a.m. that they were rerouting traffic near the bridge. Shortly after 3 p.m., police announced again that the bridge had reopened. No other details were disclosed.
PSAC statement
“PSAC and the Customs and Immigration Union are aware of the tragic incident in Windsor on November 9th in which a border officer lost his life in the line of duty. We extend our deepest condolences to the family, friends and colleagues. We would like to express our gratitude to those who have passed away — our thoughts are with everyone affected by this difficult situation.
Incidents like this highlight the challenges that public safety personnel can face throughout their careers and highlight the need for a comprehensive mental health support system and the importance of removing barriers to accessing these services. reminds us.
