Rajkot: Rakesh Vanpariya, a 42-year-old businessman, attempted suicide at Keshod in Junagadh district on Sunday night over alleged harassment by moneylenders.
He has filed a complaint at Keshod police station against six persons – Sameer Popat, Kinal Kumbani, Kamlesh Kachot, AB Solanki, Rakesh Gajera and Ravi Vampaliya. The police filed a case under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Samhita (BNS) and the Gujarat Money Lenders Act.
Rakesh Vanpariya said in his complaint that he had borrowed a total of Rs 1,665,000 from these six people at different interest rates in the past one year. He handed over 14 checks as security and paid Rs 91,500 per month as interest.
However, due to business losses, we have not been able to pay interest for the past three months. This enraged the defendant and he beat him a month ago. Later, Ravi Vampaliya, who had lent him Rs 1.2 million at a monthly interest rate of 5%, forced Rakesh Vampaliya to transfer the shop in his name.
Unable to bear the pressure, Rakesh Vanpaliya took phenyl on Sunday evening in an attempt to end his life. He was rushed to Junagadh Government Hospital. He reported the suspect to police from the hospital.
